Follow my progress – cocktail dress

Hi!

Fifth “Follow my Progress” post is up.  We’re moving mighty quickly! :)

Follow my progress on below link, with newest post on top.
https://dubaiindesign.wordpress.com/follow-my-progress/

In this latest post, I have completed the upper part of the pattern – the bust, back and the seam between those pieces and the waistband.

I will be tweaking one thing tomorrow to make the bust area more appealing and finishing the waistband.
And finally, tomorrow also, I will show you how to copy, doublecheck that everything fits and add seam allowances, etc. to prepare the pattern for cutting.

I am posting daily, since Christmas is fast approaching and the dress needs to be worn on that day :) , so keep a lookout for my progress! :)

If you have any questions about anything during my process of making this dress, please feel free to send me a message or comment below and I will get back to you ASAP with an answer :)

Cheers!

Hello Lovlies!

Fourth “Follow my Progress” post is up.

If you are just joining us, it’s not a problem!
Please follow the below link and follow the posts by date.
Oldest post is at the bottom, most recent at the top:
https://dubaiindesign.wordpress.com/follow-my-progress/

In this latest post, I have developed the basic block already and have started working from it.
What I have started to explain (with photos) is how to adjust your basic block to look like the dress I have sketched. (see link above).

– If you have taken my pattern drafting course previously, you will know how to develop the basic block and follow my progress from here.
– If you have NOT taken my pattern drafting course, but have the knowledge of how to make the basic block, please go ahead and do so now.
– If you have NOT taken my pattern drafting course, and you have no experience, please go and buy a pattern drafting book first.  You need the basic block to do the rest of the pattern.  You can purchase the book from online sources such as Amazon or if you live in UAE, you can drop by Kinokuniya in Dubai Mall.  You can then, if you wish, take my pattern drafting or sewing course in January.

I will be posting daily, so keep a lookout for my progress! :)

If you have any questions about anything during my process of making this dress, please feel free to send me a message or comment below and I will get back to you ASAP with an answer :)

Follow my progress – cocktail dress

Hello Darlings!

Third “Follow my Progress” post is up.

Please keep in mind, that you can work on the same dress in your size as I work on mine in my size here.  You are free to make yours exactly the same as mine, or you can tweak certain details, such as the length of the dress, the width of the waist sash, the shape of the neck, as you see it fit for yourself.

In this post I explain what I will do by pattern drafting, and what I will do by draping.
I have explained in detail of how I plan to go about pattern drafting this dress, which part I will start with first, where the seams will be, how I will place the opening of the dress and such other details.

This way everything is clear in my head before I start pattern drafting, which basically means less corrections once the sample is made :)

Hello fashionistas!

My apologies for having been away for a little over a week – I’ve been X-Mass shopping for family and friends :)

The second “Follow my Progress” post is up.

In this post I have decided on an illustration dress that will be actualized (shown in the post)
I focus on explaining what goes through my mind in terms of the pattern, the colours and the finishing.

Follow my Progress – cocktail dress

Follow my Progress is a progressive event in which you can follow how I go about creating a fancy and well constructed cocktail dress, simply from an idea created in my mind.

I have developed a new tab above, called “Follow my Progress”.
You can visit that page on a weekly basis to follow my progress on this particular project and learn the process that goes on in creating a garment.

Whenever the “Follow my Progress” page has been updated, I will post a note on the homepage to inform everyone.

In order for you to be informed immediately as I update the page, make sure that you FOLLOW this blog by clicking “Sign me up!” grey button on the right bottom side (below my photo), on the homepage.

Please feel free to comment and ask questions on that page if there was something that you wanted me to explain more in detail.  I would be more than happy to do so! :)

COMING SOON! Pattern drafting book

Book magic

If you liked our previous post on pattern drafting tools and other related posts, then you will be happy to learn that we are coming out with a pattern drafting book in January.

This being the very first book, we have decided to split it into a series of smaller books that go into the very detail of each topic.

This by far will be the most detailed of books, so that even someone who has never had any pattern drafting experience will be able to completely understand and follow, giving a strong base for further pattern drafting.

The first part of the book will focus on the very core of what pattern drafting is all about.
We thoroughly explain, with detailed writing and photos with explanations, about taking body measurements for a basic skirt block, the reasoning behind each part being pattern drafted and checking of the skirt once it’s been stitched.

Keep checking back for more updates and definitely check back in January once the book is out.
You may put yourself on the waiting list to receive the book once it comes out, by sending us a message – please click CONTACT tab above.

Throughout the next couple of months, we will be flashing excerpts from the book to give you a taste of what is coming.

Hope you’re just as excited about our first book as we are! :)

We are always happy to hear from you, so if there are any difficulties that you have found in making your skirts, let us know and we will be sure to include those details fully explained in this book.
